Oinking Around

Well… it’s starting to happen: countries are banning U.S. pork because there are 64 confirmed human cases of swine flu in the U.S.  Chinese authorities were quick to ban pork from the states where human cases of swine flu have showed up.  Never mind, that there is no scientific evidence that there have been any cases of swine flu in the U.S. hog population.  Never mind, that there is no scientific evidence that humans can get the flu from eating pork.  Never mind, that the confirmed cases of the swine flu all related to travel to Mexico. Reactionary policy responses that are not based on the scientific evidence are nothing more than grandstanding by some governments that come across as ham-fisted and misinformed.
